The Eastside Island Utopia Project is an attempt to collectively imagine a utopian community emerging on an existing (and currently derelict) tract of land in Nottingham. The project is curated by David Bell and supported by YH485 Press.
The project is built around a fictional ‘future-history’ detailing the development of the community. This is open to anyone to contribute to and will always remain open to further additions. It’s hoped to publish this future-history at some point, but this would in no way represent the end of the project. The latest copy of the text can be found here, and guidelines for those who wish to contribute are here. The FAQ is probably the best place to become acquainted with the origins, inspirations and ideas behind this project whilst the blog will be regularly updated with the latest news and ideas/developments relevant to the project.
As well as the text, it is hoped that this project will inspire the production of imagined ‘cultural artefacts’ from the community: music, pottery, jewellery, plays, paintings, craft, etc. Musical and textual contributions will be hosted on this website, as well as photographs of physical objects.
There will also be a number of public and private events, talks and seminars arranged around the project- all of which will have a participatory element. Details of these will be posted on the events page.
